Significance of the O'biozz brand
Once upon a time, a young man with lots of ideas and boundless energy wanted to start designing and manufacturing wooden wellness equipment. By spending time surfing the web, he had discovered a market in Japan and North America — it was the wooden bathtub market!
This young man, of course, had no money, but he didn’t care. He knew nothing about running a business, so nothing could slow him down or stop him in his tracks. In his close circle, he didn’t know anyone who had started a business, so he had neither reference nor mentor.
Only people who didn’t know him personally advised him not to go through with it — they tried to pass on their fear, discomfort, and doubts about this unusual ‘adventure’.
The first thing to do when starting a business is to find a brand name, because he already had a few ideas for the range of products he wanted to develop.
As the end of the year approached peacefully, the young man had a simple idea: to take advantage of the people gathered around the festive table to help him find the name for his future company.
On December 31st, 2006, after drinking a bit too much and eating to the point of bursting — and most importantly, after a particularly rigorous brainstorming session — around 3 a.m., our friend Jean-Noël hit the mark by coming up with the coolest name of the moment: O’BIOZZ…
The name cracked like a whip — everyone stopped eating, drinking, even breathing — and right then, we knew it was the right one.
So here, as a sneak preview, is the meaning behind this name — and how we came to it.
– The ‘O’ stands for the world of water — it’s the common thread running through all our products and our concept. The letter ‘O’ is also the symbol for oxygen, but it’s also an interjection used to express surprise! And yes, that’s exactly what our customers say when they try our products — it’s the guaranteed surprise effect. The earth and our bodies are 70% water, and the wood we use before drying contains more water than cellulose.
The apostrophe, this feminine symbol, represents interpellation, i.e. it marks a pause and gives food for thought. It’s a very strong slanting sign in poetry and in the French language, a high comma that also allows us to see far, to gain height.
– The particle ‘BIO’ comes from the Greek bios, which means life. It is used to designate disciplines that focus on a phenomenon in its relation to the living world. It can also mean respect for nature and the environment.
The ZZ, composed of the Z which is the 26th and last letter of our alphabet, but the composition of the double ZZ comes above all from the name of the Italian Jacuzzi family who invented balneotherapy in the 1960s in the USA. The use of the double ‘Z’ was also intentional — it’s the sound characters make when they sleep in cartoons and comics.
But ‘ZZ’ is also the name of an incredible plant grown by Africans to fight drought: Zamioculcas Zamiifolia.
Put it all together in the jar and you’ve got the name of our O’biozz brand.
